How to find reviews of:
EDUCATIONAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTS

  1. Start with the Mental Measurements Yearbook database, which contains the full-text of reviews starting with the Ninth Mental Measurements Yearbook.
    1. If you have a particular test in mind, first type a few words from its title in the first seach box, then change the adjacent drop-down menu from Select a Field (optional) to TI Test Name. For example, to search for reviews of the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test type wechsler individual achievement.

For titles of tests in the first sixteen yearbooks, including the first nine yearbooks not included in the online database, consult Tests in Print VII (Ref Z 5814 .E9 T47 ed. 7 2006) the “Index of Titles” (pp. 799-846) or “Index of Acronyms” (pp. 877-906).

[NOTE: At this time the database only includes reviews for the NEWEST version of a test. To locate reviews of an earlier version of a test in the print Mental Measurements Yearbook, look at the 'References:' field of the database description for the test. For example, the database includes two reviews of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Fourth Edition. To locate reviews of the Third Edition, consult the 'References:' field of the record for the Fourth Edition. You will see, among other information, 'for reviews by Jeffrey P. Braden and Jonathan Sandoval of an earlier edition, see 12:412'. This means you will find reviews of the Third Edition in the Twelth Mental Measurements Yearbook, Test Number 412.]

    2. If you have no particular test in mind, browse available test reviews organized into 18 categories, e.g., Achievement, Intelligence and General Aptitude, Personality, Reading, Sensory-Motor. On the default Advanced Search screen, below the search boxes, look for the menu following Limit your results: Test Category. You can select a single test category by clicking on it, or select multiple categories by holding down the Ctrl-key at the same time you click on the categories that interest you. Then click the Search button at the top of the screen adjacent to the search boxes.

For a subject guide to tests in the first sixteen yearbooks, consult the “Classified Subject Index” in Tests in Print VII (Ref Z 5814 .E9 T47 ed. 7 2006) (pp. 907-962).

    3. If you are seeking a test that yields a particular kind of score or measure, first type a word or phrase in the first seach box, then change the adjacent drop-down menu from Select a Field (optional) to SC Scores. [Tip: You can search for a word and any variant endings by typing an asterisk (*) at the end of a word root. For example, typing shy* returns items with score names that include the word shy as well as shyness.]

For tests that measure particular variables listed in the first fourteen yearbooks, consult the “Score Index” in Tests in Print VII (Ref Z 5814 .E9 T47 ed. 7 2006) (pp. 907-962).

  2. Look at the reviews in Test Critiques V. 1-11 (Ref BF176.T418).  Consult the "Index of Test Titles" and/or the "Subject Index" in the latest volume of the set for a cumulative index of reviews.
  3. If sufficient information about a test is not located using the above-mentioned materials you may search the professional education and psychology literature by consulting the appropriate indexes.
    1. Consult the ERIC (Education Resources Information Center) database.  Search for the test name.
    2. Explore the PsycINFO database.   Search for the name of the test.
    3. Search Education Abstracts for the test name.
